Musings...

Learning how to help people move better with less pain, through bodywork and core movement, is an ongoing process for me. I'm constantly thinking about it. Through this blog I will share what I learn, my revelations and thoughts about massage, movement and the human body.

This blog is the transcript of a recording I did this morning. I was thinking of using the video as the blog, but watching it makes me feel a bit dizzy because I recorded it as I walked! Not pleasant!

"Good morning! I'm out walking, walking the track. Sometimes when I walk the track I like to sprint the straightaways. And when I get here I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do that, or if I'm just going to walk or going to walk fast or what exactly I'll do.

And today when I started my walk, I had some pain in my knee, then some pain in the other knee. So I stopped right away and did some corrections and movements, some massage I guess, self massage. And started walking again, trying to walk fast, and you know what? It didn't work, so I stopped again. I probably stopped 3 to 4 times. I finally stopped and lay down on the grass, the turf and I just calmed my whole self down. I did some movements, core movement and I did    breathing, and I did a little more self massage work on my quads and my adductors. I did some testing. My quad on the right was shaky and weak. So I found what was causing it, released it, got it going again. Got up and now I'm walking, pain free.

And I also realize that I'm walking differently right now. I'm walking for a different reason, not for exercise, but today I'm doing mindful walking, meditative walking. Paying attention to every single step my foot is taking, how it hits the ground, how it plants to the ground.  I'm feeling how balance my body is. It seems to be pretty even, in terms of, do I spend more time on one foot versus the other foot?  I'm feeling the energy from the foot on the ground going up my whole body into my torso giving me a little bit of spiralic lift.

And this fits another challenge I'm dong this week which is meditation challenge. I have accepted a challenge to mediate daily and today is walking meditation.

I then I took some time to video tape and show the sky which was gorgeous, cloudy, breezy, cool and beautiful.

So, listen to your body! Move better. feel better. This is Ellie from MyBodyWorks!"

I've done a lot of different jobs in my life.  I've finally settled on one.  sort of.  The thing about being a massage therapist and working with the human body is that there is so much to learn and so many ways to help people!  so it changes all the time, it's like having a new job every day!  this works for me.  I like change and new.
